My experience so far as an OMD/OMD2 veteran:There need to be better options for classic solo/duo play. All of the maps seem to have their spawn settings the same regardless of how many people are in your party, making smaller parties not viable. For example: I got matched with a full party, only to have two of them drop out on a difficult map. We could have won with a full party, but there was no way to open up the game for more people to join.A possible way to balance against this is to limit the number of active portals based on the number of players in the game, while keeping the number of enemies constant.Gab's primary attack is laughably weak compared to what you would get with a charged wand in OMD2. Her stun ability also seems pretty useless, since orcs will snap out of it with any damage. Max's crossbow and stun abilities also suffer from similar issues.Matchmaking definitely needs some kind of filter.
I really don't want to keep playing Frostbite/Shark Island over and over.Few maps seem to have a design where you can really shape the path of the orcs in a useful way. Barricades are almost not worth bringing since they're so easily taken out, and they're expensive to replace if they are taken out.As others have stated, the unlock pace is incredibly slow. I have mountains of donkey fat, kobold tears, and armor, but any other crafting materials are a pretty rare sight on the battlefield. That said, I really like the unchain mechanic and the combat leveling system.
It really gives a good incentive for players to go for trap combo kills (though you still see a lot of people rush to the portals to kill orcs far from the traps). Played a bunch last night, I am enjoying the game but it still doesn't feel as satisfying as the previous iterations. So, here's some things I like so far:. Deck idea is cool - really enjoy being able to customise minion waves when attacking in Siege mode. 1-5 players in Survival, yes!.
Different heroes with varying skills. Stuff like heroes attacking us in Survival, and having to kill a boss then use an item to summon it in Siege! Cool!.
Unchained mechanic, I find it most useful as a cooldown to rescue the situation when it's all going to hell. And here's a few things I'm not such a fan of so far:. Feels a bit floaty, but it is feeling better with time!. Because I need to craft other traps to make my own deck, I find myself holding back on crafting anything yet because I know I have limited materials, as opposed to in the past where I could reset and allocate my skulls as I pleased. Hero expense.
I kinda get it, but here's the thing. I'm usually a player who will quite happily pick up a new skin or cool thing from a cash shop, I am the target audience for that kinda thing. But paying £9.99 for a hero just feels pretty rough, and even worse there were 2 I wanted to try, but the expense just felt too unjustifiable even though I could afford it. Doesn't seem like there is a 'try' mode yet either?. Only specific pre-built killboxes to build in. I kinda get why we can't build all over the map but it's a shame after some of the creativity allowed in previous titles. That said, if you can vary up the build areas and give us interesting decisions and possibilities it won't be too bad.I have a couple of other concerns but I think it's mostly me playing with/against pretty poor players.
For example, when I play Blackpaw I seem to have incredible damage and sustain; nobody can deal with me and I pretty much never die even to bosses. I also found it really easy to collect resources and get my minions upgraded in no time, vastly outdoing the opponents offense - but I assume this is due to them not defending resources properly or bothering to get their own minions up to speed.I'm enjoying it overall though and feel that it does have potential to be really cool in both PvE and PvP as long as the devs keep a passion for it and take feedback on board where appropriate. Keep it coming!.
So I assume higher-level closed beta players' matchmaking ratings were reset to start point? I think my friends and I were matched with people way better than us, and as a result, we got crushed. It was very frustrating and just not fun.I played about 10 games of closed beta, so I didn't go in as a total noob, but this wasn't even remotely close. The opponents really seemed to really know what they're doing. They also have heroes outside of the free to play rotation. Many of those are heroes I've never even read the description of. We're just getting destroyed by these people, and it's just very frustrating. My friend just played his first game and after that game just now already doesn't feel like queuing up for another game.Friends are claiming that Zoey seems really strong, at least on our level.
They just kept dying to her because they were thrown off the map.Anyway, I think I'll try again next week once matchmaking settles down a little. I enjoyed the game when I played before, but today was a very frustrating experience.
